Summary of work as
eLearning Officer with SEMLAC, South East Museum, Library and Archive Council

During 2005-2006 Martin Bazley worked 2 days a week, including an innovative project for schools developed with financial assistance from South East Grid for Learning called Victorian Learning Journey. The project took a new approach to supporting learning about the Victorians, based around a physical journey by a Victorian photographer around the South East of England, supported by videoconferencing, interactive talkboards and short video clips. One aim of the project was to encourage more schools to make the most of the learning opportunities offered by museums, librares and archives in their area.

The previous year's work included the Kent elearning initiative, working with 14 museums in Kent and Medway to develop elearning opportunities and models of good practice.

Summary of work as
Internet Projects Manager in the Learning Unit at the Science Museum 1995-2003

STEM (Students' and Teachers' Educational Materials) project
Martin Bazley coordinated educational activity for this award-winning Internet-based project since its inception.  It featured a competition to stimulate production by students, teachers and others, of web-based resources to help others make better educational use of the Science Museum and its sister museums, NMPFT in Bradford and NRM in York.   This has meant visiting schools to assist with web production by students and teachers, running web-production workshops for students at the Museum, reviewing resources submitted and liaising with authors to improve final submissions, identifying and contacting potential teachers/schools, internal liaison with Sponsorship and Marketing and coordinating project activity as a whole.  Sample resources and more information available at www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/education/stem

COMO (Challenge of Materials Online) project
This project had the aim of stimulating production by students, teachers and others, of web-based resources relating to materials, usually based around visits to industrial or other materials-related sites.  Work on this project has many elements in common with the STEM project. Sample resources and more information available at www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/education/como

Science Learning Network projects
Martin Bazley worked on a number of different projects for SLN, including evaluation of existing resources (involving log analysis, in-classroom observation and group interviews) and coordinating production of web-based resources, including those at
www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/pieces

More information on SLN is available at www.sln.org

NotSchool
This project, run by Ultralab with funding from DfES, aims to provide a supportive, motivating environment to re-engage teenagers into learning, who are out of school in the long term for a variety of reasons.  The Science Museum provided input in the Science and Technology area, through a rolling programme of content and through simply keeping in touch with 'researchers' via the Think.com environment.  More information available at www.notschool.net

Internet courses for teachers
Martin Bazley set up and run a number of courses for teachers, including Writing for the Web, The Internet for Primary Teachers and IT for animation and interactivity.  Courses were well attended and attracted highly positive feedback.

Teachers Advisory Panel
Martin Bazley ran the TAP, recruiting teachers to ensure a balanced mix across phases and subject specialisms, devising and monitoring evaluation sessions and developing the teacher contact database.
